Tired of feeling tired? How to fight fatigue and start winning the battle

Tired of feeling tired

A couple weeks ago I was at the gym and just felt completely unmotivated and exhausted. I knew I was simply going through the motions and was frustrated with myself that I didn’t feel more energized. One thing in particular that I realized that day was that I haven’t been listening to my inner self…and it was screaming at me to just REST.

I have a type A personality and it’s definitely difficult for me to relax if I know that a, b and c still need to get done. I “need” to get to the gym at least 4 days a week, I “need” to make dinner and clean the bathrooms before I can even think about sitting down. The list goes on and on.

I knew I was burned out, so I decided to take one week off of the gym and do some workouts at home instead.

This truly gave me a much needed reset. It allowed me to understand that simply listening to my body works absolute wonders. I felt less irritated, less tired, and had a lot more energy to focus on what I needed to. There are countless articles out there about fatigue, but sometimes the best treatment is to just take a time out and rest when you’re running on empty.

This will look different for everyone…maybe you work a 9-5 and can’t seem to ever feel rested. Take an unscheduled day off, get some fresh air in the evening instead of watching TV, or simply get to bed earlier.

Another solution that I have found works best for me is a strong focus on nutrition. The term “you are what you eat” couldn’t be more accurate. My body feels the difference when I have a busy week and end up getting carry out more than usual…fatigue sets in.

Proper nutrition can make all the difference in your energy levels as well as your mood. The biggest pushback I hear whenever I give advice on healthy eating habits is that they just don’t have the time or “it doesn’t taste good”.

I have timed myself making meals during the week, and more often than not I am done in 30 minutes (prep included). They are not crazy extravagant meals, and I’m not wasting an entire Sunday meal prepping for the week (although I do tend to prep my lunches).

Seasonings make all the difference when it comes to clean meals that actually taste good. Dive into your spice rack and start experimenting with whatever sounds good to you!

So – this week get yourself mentally ready to feel more energized and fight fatigue once and for all. Keep in mind these are lifestyle changes that don’t happen overnight, and no one is perfect!

Listen to what your body is telling you, and give in to that rest and relaxation. Set an intention each day to reach your goal of feeling rested.
