Could Your Body’s pH Levels Be Off?

With the hormonal and pH level of your body in a balanced condition, everything will seem perfect. Your energy, digestion and mood will tend to be more efficient and positive.

But, when the pH level of your body is not balanced, you might not feel the same. By trying to keep your body in a state of pH harmony can help in boosting your performance and thus will also make your day far more productive.

pH is nothing but the power of hydrogen. It helps in measuring the concentration of hydrogen ion in the human body. It helps in determining how acidic or alkaline the solutions of your body are. The most ideal pH level for human body is 6.5-7.5 which is slightly alkaline.

Signs your body’s pH is not balanced

Let’s have a look at some signs that the pH level of your body might not be in a balanced condition.

  • Low level of energy: In case you are feeling fatigued, it might be due to excessive acidity of the solutions in your body. Being in the acidic state will make it hard for the body to absorb nutrients. Having nutritious foods can help in retaining the balance.
  • Weak bones: If you are prone to falls and injuries, it might mean that the pH level of your body is not balanced. When the body becomes too acidic, it results in leeching of calcium and magnesium and thus resulting in weak bones. Have calcium-rich food to prevent osteoporosis.
  • Improper digestion: When you consume more than the usual level of acid in your diet, you might suffer from an upset stomach. This might happen from consuming acid rich vegetables like tomatoes and onions. Consult your doctor in case you are facing the same.
  • Sleep deficiency: In case of unbalanced pH level, you might suffer from insomnia as the body might become more acidic than usual.
  • Degradation of dental health: Poor dental health might be the sign that the acidity of your body is too much. Try to avoid consuming fruits and sodas.
  • Stress: Stress can easily mingle with your body pH level and make the condition worse. Try to meditate daily to overcome the situation.

How does a Vegan diet affect your body?

vegan diet

Even though it is not a new concept, veganism is becoming trendier day-by-day and attracting a lot of attention. What does it mean to follow a vegan diet though?

Many people mistake veganism with vegetarianism. Veganism is not only a dietary choice but also comes with many lifestyle choices that exclude the consumption and usage of all types of animal products.

Veganism is the more stringent form of vegetarianism. Vegan diets strictly exclude not only meat, fish, and poultry but milk or any other dairy products as well. Is there any health benefit of such food habit? Let’s see:

  • Exclusion of animal fats is one of the most advantageous features of vegan diets as animal fats contain a high level of cholesterol, that is why are associated with several types health conditions e.g. hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiac diseases, etc.
  • The risk of prostate and colorectal cancer is significantly higher in meat eaters than those who don’t consume meats. In addition, the vegan diet comprises fruits and vegetables that contain a higher level of fibres, vitamins, and minerals
  • Your bone health completely depends on your intake of elements like calcium and phosphate that mostly comes from milk and other dairy products. However, that doesn’t mean vegan diets lack calcium. Figs, kale, black-eyed peas, spinach, and turnip greens are good sources of calcium. Besides, milk alternatives like soymilk, almond milk is becoming popular and widely available.
  • The risk of obesity is much lower in the vegans than others on traditional diets. This is because your total calorie intake is much lower when you are on a vegan diet than that when you follow a standard diet. Not to mention, lower the risk of obesity lower the risk of cardiac health conditions.
  • A number of studies reveal that vegan dietary habits can prevent and protect you from genetic chronic disease. Plant compounds can contribute in controlling genetic conditions like arterial plaque, cardiovascular disease, and tumour growth.

Chock-full of nutrients, a vegan diet can be a thoughtful choice as it eliminates the risk of numerous health conditions. In addition, fruits and vegetables contain a high amount of antioxidants which help you look fresh and feel energetic.

Acne can happen at any age. Here’s what to do about in your 40s

Most of us feel that we can breathe a sigh of relief when we eventually reach the age of 40. Youthful insecurities often give way to a kind acceptance and qualities that once felt like differences now feel unique and individual.

Although breakouts are stereotypically part of a teenagers experience, getting acne as a 40 year old woman is more common than you may think. The hormonal component of this shift has to do with the alternating levels of androgens in the body.

Here are some methods which can help you deal with this problem:

Start taking oral probiotics: Our digestion can be affected by stress which shifts our inner microbial system leading to inflammation. Eventually the gut becomes leaky and toxins are released into the bloodstream causing inflammation throughout the body. Oral probiotics regulate the imbalance of bacteria and reduce oil levels to treat acne.

Drink hot lemon water in the morning: Squeeze a full lemon into a mug full of hot water and drink it when you wake up. This will help to flush out toxins and purify the body internally.

Use of topical retinoids: Topical retinoids are the first step of treatment for mild to moderate retinoids. Retinoids help your skin slough off dead cells at a more normal rate so the dead skin cells don’t bind together and clog your pores.

Use benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid: Benzoyl peroxide destroys the bacteria associated with acne. Salicylic acid on the skin helps to correct the abnormal shedding of cells.

Consult your doctor: If all the above methods doesn’t seem to be working, consult with your dermatologist to seek further help.

8 Foods that make your Urine smell (other than Asparagus)

Have you ever settled into the restroom to do your business and listen to the calming sound of your yellow stream only to notice an awful smell?! You know what your pee should smell like so, an unfamiliar scent might be a sign of having consumed these foods:

Alcohol and coffee: Both alcohol and coffee cause smelly urine because they are diuretics. Shortly after you consume coffee or alcohol, you will likely need to urinate which can lead to dehydration. The uric acid or any other chemicals or vitamins in your urine become more concentrated and create a stronger smelling urine.

Garlic: Garlic is a very pungent food. It affects the odour of your breath, and your sweat. It contains methyl mercaptan which causes a smelly urine.

A keto diet: Just as going on super low carb diet makes your breath reek, it can do the same to your pee. When you enter a state of ketosis, your body releases ketones as it burns fat for fuel. Ketones affect your urine causing a bad odour.

Banana and chicken: Foods that contain lot of Vitamin B6 can cause urine to smell strongly if you eat enough of it. Vitamins that the body processes but doesn’t consume are eliminated through the urine which results in the odour.

Broccoli: Cruciferous vegetables can cause a strong smell in urine. This is because they contain methyl mercaptan which produces a bitter odour after their consumption.

Puffed wheat: Typically eaten as a breakfast cereal, puffed wheat can cause urine that gives off an odour like malt which is similar to the way it smells in your bowl!!

Chilli peppers: The skin of chilli peppers contains a neuropeptide called capsaicin which doesn’t break down after being digested. Because of this it is eliminated from the body as odoriferous.

Salmon: Salmon contains plenty of Vitamin B6 which is terrible for urine odour. It also brightens the colour of urine.

And, of course – Asparagus!
