8 Reasons to go Vegan

8 Reasons to go Vegan

If you look around, you will realize how the world is changing. This current century is radical, and for all the right reasons. In the 21st century, people are much more sensitive because they are more aware and, brands are now using this awareness as a marketing tool. People of today need logic behind everything they use, see and buy.

A vegan or a plant-based diet is no new thing but it is increasing in popularity. People have been opting for this diet for a couple of reasons. Some have chosen it as a step towards reducing animal slaughter, others because they want to switch to a healthier option.

In this article, we will discuss 8 reasons to go vegan:

1. Great for Skin

Consuming vegetables, nuts and having greens every day will have a positive effect on your skin. This is exactly what our skin needs, no starch, no carbs, just natural vegetables.

If you long for bright, fresh, and glowing skin, then switch to a plant-based vegan diet.

2. Vegan Beauty

Now vegan beauty is a thing, and that too a very trending one. People now prefer using products that are chemical-free and free from all kinds of animal cruelty.

3. Great Choice

While the diet itself is very nourishing and organic, choosing a plant-based diet is something that not everyone is capable of doing. To be able to switch to such a strict diet, one needs a lot of courage. This type of change requires an eye for the future—someone who cares about the future and others.

4. Increases your Mental Wellbeing

Of course, having a plant-based diet has excellent effects on your body, but it has even more significant impacts on your mental health. Research has shown improvement in the mental health of vegans is as compared to those who don’t follow this way of eating.

5. Easier and Healthier

People usually shy away from this option because there were hardly any options available earlier for vegans. But now, things have changed. Many brands now have a separate vegan line for their products.

6. Cheaper Option

While a vegan diet is great for our health, it is also not so bad for our bank balances. Meat is expensive however, vegan products are a lot cheaper and can also keep you full for a longer period.

7. Sustainability

Research has shown that the production of meat and dairy products poses harm to the environment. So, reducing this will greatly help the planet. Switching to a plant-based diet is good for us, our health, and our planet too.

8. The Right Way to Live

By becoming a vegan, you are standing against animal cruelty, standing against unsustainability, and taking a stand to protect animal rights. By switching to a plant-based diet, you are helping in reducing some of the biggest problems of the world.

In short, Go Vegan or Go Home, Eh?!

Probiotics: Why are they so important for our health?

PROBIOTICS WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR OUR HEALTH

Probiotics and Bacteria

Probiotics are made up of good bacteria that live in our bodies. When we speak of bacteria, we usually think it is something negative and that our bodies should never have it. In reality, bacteria are of two types; good and bad. Good bacteria live in our bodies. So, probiotics are basically made up of the good bacteria which makes your body work at its full capacity and keeps us healthy and strong. The bacteria that the probiotics are made up of help our bodies fight against bad bacteria and help us feel healthy and better.

So, probiotics themselves are live microorganisms, which can be consumed or can also be applied to our bodies. Probiotics are found in beauty products, yogurt, and other healthy foods.

BENEFITS OF PROBIOTICS

Further in this article, we will discuss some main benefits of probiotics:

PROBIOTICS CAN TREAT DIARRHOEA

Research has shown that probiotics cannot only treat diarrhoea but also help in preventing it from happening. It is very common for people to experience diarrhoea, especially during a course of antibiotics due to this drug’s intensity.

Moreover, antibiotics also affect the balance of good bacteria with bad bacteria, causing the bad to outweigh the good. There have been many studies and researches, which conclude that probiotics are one of the best treatments for diarrhoea, which is associated with antibiotics.

IMPROVES MOOD AS WELL AS MENTAL HEALTH

It has also been proven that probiotics also help in improving moods as well as mental health. This is because our gut health has a direct link to our moods as well as our mental health.

Studies revealed when probiotics supplements were taken for eight to nine weeks, there was a visible decrease in depression levels. There have been studies on both animals and humans which conclude that probiotics can positively affect mental health conditions.

PROBIOTICS CAN HELP KEEP OUR HEARTS HEALTHY

Bad cholesterol is very bad for our health. Probiotics help in lowering the bad cholesterol level, helping our hearts stay healthy.

Based on a study, people who ate yogurt filled with probiotics for a few weeks had prominent effects on their cholesterol levels as it helped lower them. Apart from that, it has also been concluded that probiotics also help in lowering blood pressure. It is important that for anyone who wants to see the aforementioned results, he or she has to consume probiotics for 8 to 9 weeks.

HELPS WITH ALLERGIES

Probiotics also help in decreasing the severity of allergies, inflammation as well as eczema.

HELPS IN BOOSTING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Probiotics help in boosting our immune system, and not only this, but they also help us in fighting against infections. They are also responsible for boosting immune cells in our bodies, but modestly.

Probiotics are very healthy for our bodies and have a number of benefits. So, it is important that we consume them to stay healthy and happy. Check out the Nuferm range of probiotics at InnerOrigin now.

Great Ideas to Simplify Meal Preparation

meal preparation

One fantastic way to cut down on food waste and to save time money is meal preparation. This is the act of preparing a meal, and portioning it out to create grab-and-go meals for later.

Instead of spending valuable time in the kitchen every night, why not spend just a few hours having healthy meals prepared in advance for the week, ready for the table? This is one of the hottest food trends lately and you can try it yourself!

Here are our hacks, tips, and tricks to becoming a meal prepping expert.

# 1 – PLAN YOUR MEALS

First, you have to plan the meals you will be cooking for the week. As much as you may want to make your prepping journey enticing and exciting, it’s important to keep things simple and easy for yourself when first starting!

Once you have a menu, the next step is to create a list of ingredients to shop. Consider the quantity of food you want to prepare, and the budget you have to prepare the meals.

Also take some time to think about portion sizes of your recipes and how they relate to the recommended food group servings when planning your meals

Tips

Starting with single recipe meal prep is suggested instead of a meal that requires two or three recipes together. Once you have succeeded with one recipe or meal, you can try two.

You can rotate saved plans once you have 3 to 4 of them saved, this keeps things interesting and saves you time on planning.

# 2 – BE PREPARED!

Have a checklist of Ingredients and tools to avoid running around looking for items while cooking, as this can become very frustrating.

Measure out the quantity of food you need for your cooking.

Tips

Do not experiment or try out new recipes with meal prep to avoid wastage and to save time.

Dice, slice, chop, mince, cut, and mix whatever needs to be premixed or marinated.

Large quantities of food can be overwhelming, so you do not have to do everything at once.

Choose freezer-friendly meals

# 3 – MAKE TIME

This a large quantity of cooking you are about to do, so you have to find time to do the cooking. It might take up to 3 or more hours prep meals for the whole week.

Therefore you have to find the most suitable time that will not affect your work and usual daily activities. Weekends are most advisable, as this seems to work best for most people, and allows you to start the week with your meals sorted!

Tip

You may want to do the shopping or get the ingredients during the week to save time and ease your weekend workload.

# 4 – SHORTCUT TIPS

Roast all your vegetables and your proteins at once, this will save you time and power bills.

Meals made in a single pot are perfect for reducing dishes and clean up.

Use a slow cooker! You can leave meals to cook while you relax and do some other things.

Choose foods that can fit into a few different dishes, so you can cover many meals by cooking a large batch. For instance, quinoa can serve as a side dish, can be added to the salad, or as part of a grain bowl. Roast chicken can be added to a soup, can be served alongside a salad, or served in tacos for the whole week. You can as well freeze up leftovers for future use.

Cooked beans and tinned lentils are great to save time, no soaking for overnight; all you have to do is drain and rinse.

# 5 BULK BUYING

It is advisable to buy all your needed items in bulk, to have enough for you large cooking and to save money. You are likely to have discounts on large quantity purchases.

For example (hypothetical), 25kg bulk size of Organic Rolled Oats costs $4.8/kg while 5kg bulk size is sold for $5.82/kg, and 850g grocery size is $9.35/kg.

#6 STORE THE BASICS

Ingredients that are necessary and are quick-fix for a meal such as lentils rice, tinned tomatoes, pasta, and frozen vegetables should be stocked in your pantry.

Having dried fruits, seeds, and nuts in the pantry is good for easy snacking or adding an extra element to a meal.

Baking basics are also advised so you are always prepared to get your bake on!

Tips

Cakes, cookies, muffins, and other baked goods can be made in large batches and frozen in advance as easy snacks or treats that you can easily grab in a few weeks.

#7 GRAINS

Cooked grains will last for up to four days in the fridge and can be stored in the freezer for a longer time. Pasta and grains are meal prep basics that could be cooked in large batches and used as both the main dish and sides.

# 8 CORRECT STORAGE

Take time to invest in the perfect containers that will keep your food as fresh as possible.

Choose stainless steel, glass, mason jars, plastic or glass containers with an excellent seal, BPA-free containers with lockable lids to prevent spilling.

Tip

Containers with a label area are advisable, so you can write the meal’s name, date cooked, and date you’re using it.

Look for containers that are refrigerator freezer, microwave, and dishwasher-safe.

Have them in different sizes and shapes.

# 9 KEEP EVERYTHING ORGANISED

When you are done with prepping, and packing, be sure to have done proper labeling before you store them in the fridge or freezer.

Organise by keeping the stuff to be used earliest in the week in the front and put food that perishes first, like and, at eye level so you don’t forget about them.

Tip:

Keep perishables such as herbs, chopped fruit in the front where you always see them so you don’t forget them.

Clean out your fridge regularly to create space for your containers

Maintain proper hygiene.

Aside from being a money and time saver, meal prep can help you lose weight as it helps to reduce the temptation to eat unhealthy foods and can help you stick to a particular diet.

About Organic Sol Ghee and Rice [Recipe]

So what is Ghee? And why should you put Ghee into your diet

Organic Sol Ghee, uses Ghee that is made from butter that has been clarified to remove all the milk solids and moisture. This careful process turns the butter into a pure, golden cooking oil with many nutritional benefits and medicinal qualities.

The removal of the milk solids and casein enables ghee to be shelf stable and not require refrigeration. Generally people who are lactose intolerant usually have no problems consuming ghee.

Ghee does not contain any nasty trans fats, it is indeed a healthy fat. In India, Ghee has always been a sacred and celebrated symbol of nourishment, healing and auspiciousness; especially in the daily rituals of worship
and cooking.

Ghee brings out flavour and especially with herbs and spices. Many of the medicinal properties of herbs and spices can be absorbed, and transported to targeted areas of the body with ghee.

Ayurveda, the ‘science of life’ in India, recognises Ghee as an essential part of a balanced diet, and considers it to be the best fat one can eat. You can use Ghee in place of any cooking oil – Ghee has a very high ‘smoke point’ or heating temperature making it ideal for frying.

Since it cooks at a higher point than almost any other oil, it won’t break into free radicals like other ones. Free radicals can potentially be harmful to one’s health, and when an oil smokes, it can be hazardous to a person’s respiratory system if constantly breathed in.

Ghee is shelf stable so can be stored in the cupboard, however you are still able to store in the fridge if you prefer.

Sol Ghee is made from butter from Grass fed only dairy cows. The Certified Organic Ghee is made from butter from grass fed cows from a certified organic dairy farm. Ghee is a healthy fat rich in vitamins such as Vitamins A,
D, E, and K. These vitamins are important for promoting bone and brain health, and for boosting the immune system.

Ghee made From Grass-Fed Cows Contains CLA – Conjugated linoleic acid or CLA is higher in grass-fed beef and in products made from their milk.

While research is still diving into the benefits of CLA, initial studies indicate that it may help to reduce tumors, lower cholesterol and high blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and actually lower body fat.

organic sol ghee products

Ghee Contains Butyrate, an Essential Short-Chain Fatty Acid. Butyrate, or butyric acid, is a short-chain fatty acid that acts as a detoxifier and improves colon health. It’s been shown to support healthy insulin levels, is an antiinflammatory, and may be helpful for individuals suffering from IBS, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

So many great health benefits from Ghee, too many to mention, but it is also so versatile in cooking. I use in place of any cooking oil but find it particularly delicious when frying mushrooms or tomatoes. Its great for baking your potatoes, to fry eggs, and of course to fry any pastes at the start of any of your curry dishes.

My kids favourite is Ghee pasta… simply boil your pasta and stir thru ghee until melted. It creates a lovely buttery pasta dish. And I always add to my steamed rice which I have with my Dhal or curry…See my recipe below! Enjoy!
